professional photography Canon or Nikon

In order to find out which camera is best suited for top professional photography we’ll have to compare these brands in the following categories.

  1. Compatibility
  2. Crop factor
  3. Performance
  4. Usability

Compatibility:

The reason behind the popularity of these brands is the compatibility of these two. F and EF mount of the two brand Nikon & Canon were introduced in 1987 & 1959 respectively. Which means one has many accessories, which can still work with these modern age digital cameras.

The main difference of these two are the AF-S lenses of Nikon and EOS lenses of Canon. The Canon lenses has autofocus since 80s and Nikon’s lenses manufactured in the same era have autofocus. Nikon has removed the autofocus motor from its entry-level range as Nikon wants to make the cameras lightweight, compact and affordable. Whereas Canon has autofocus through the product line-up. Nikon has motors in the lenses where Canon has autofocus in its body.

Crop factor

The crop-factor of Nikon crop-sensor is 1.5x in most cases, which means if one attaches 50mm to a Nikon crop dslr, he will get 75mm. The crop factor of Canon is 1.6x as all of their beginner’s cameras have smaller sensor.

It may seem to be a small difference but 0.1 can have a huge impact on the images being produce by the camera. It highly depends on what sort of images one wants to produce in selecting the cameras.

Usability

How does one feel in hand? How easy in to use the camera? Can one see himself using the camera in different situations? These are main points to be considered while making the decision of purchasing one these.

The style and the look of the camera should not matter; the only thing, which needs to matter, is the product that comes out of that camera. When a photographer chooses the brand, it is unlikely for him to switch. As it is very hard to get rid of all the lenses and other equipment bought for that specific brand.

Performance

How does these two brand perform? Nikon and Canon similarly extraordinary execution. It is unjust to sum up every manufactures attempt to conclude which is ideal. There are regions where Canon stands apart where Nikon does not and the other way around. It is better to know about the specs of the camera to purchase and contrast them with one another. It would help in making the decision and watching the real time reviews of the product way you have some thought how they act in various situations.
